The Inadequate Heir Review

 The Inadequate Heir

Title: The Inadequate Heir (Book 3 in the Bridge Kingdom Series)

Author: Danielle L. Jensen

Rating: ★★★

Genre: YA, Fantasy

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

During the short time we got to meet Keris, did you ever wonder what lead him to the things he had accomplished? This book answers what exactly took place on his side during "The Traitor Queen" We follow Keris and Zarrah as they take on the ultimate task of deception and saving one another on the way.

This was not really what I had expected, I had not expected to be thrown for a loop as we are reading during The Traitor Queen. I loved book 1&2 Dearly and this wasn't bad but it wasn't until I got more than half way through the book that I realized what and where the story was. It wasn't foreshadowed that we would be picking up during the Traitor Queen and it through me for quite the loop. This book felt like one that I should have tandem read white reading The Traitor Queen.

Keris is complex and honestly very confusing (not in a bad way) as he is learning how and who to be. Keris finds himself enchanted by someone who is meant to be his enemy "by family issues" and yet can't find the means to break it off. It isn't until they shine light on the situation (literally sun light) that the truth of who he is revealed and slowly he figures out that she too is his enemy. Enemy of family past, lovers by chance. Zarrah is conflicted as Keris does everything he can to save her, even if that means allowing his father to force his hand to do something unthinkable.

If you are wondering if we are going to see Lara and Aren again in this book, the answer is yes. as limited as the conversations were in the Traitor Queen. Think of this as Traitor Queen rewritten in Keris and Zarrah's point of Views.

There is rumor and the cliff hanger from the end made it clear that there is a fourth book in the making and it is something new. New as Keris is left to ask for his sisters or Lara and Arden's help to save Zarrah before the world takes their own aim at her. I think this book if you loved Keris and wanted to know more is perfect for you but if you weren't curious about him or Zarrah this book is most likely the one to stop you.
