Title: The Final Gambit (Book 3 of The Inheritance Game Series)
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Rating: ★★★★★
Genre: Mystery and Fiction
Spice: 🌶
The end is here and honestly it is a book I refused to put down as I read it all in one sitting. Clue after clue, deception after deception, riddle after riddle, the book never let us know what was coming until the very end. Any time I thought I was even close to solving the riddle there was another part that threw me around. Avery is someone we should all strive to be, brilliant, cunning, smart, and determined. Avery is a mind game of her own, one almost more brilliant than the old man himself.
We find out the real reason she was chosen, the real reason the old man gave everything to her. A stranger none the less, but someone who will be able to keep his family safe. And with two handsome boys by her side she will have choices that come with it.
Fist off, Jameson Hawthorne. You cant possibly ask for a person more cunning and more protective than him. He has such a character that you cant fault him for any of the wrongs he claimed in the first book. You cant fault him in any way because all his life he has tried to be better, to be the man every girl and person wants. To him Avery wasn't another girl she was his only girl. To compete against his brother, Grayson, was something he didn't and wouldn't do but for her he would have. The actions in this book, the things he did to ensure her safe and sound made him sound. He listened to her, even when he didn't agree with her, he didn't fight or argue but made it her own vision.
Greyson. My heart says scream and hug him but also throttle him. The second Eve showed up, and the fact that she looks so much like Emily, his and Jameson's ex, he was focused on her. Not that anyone can fault him but he didn't care about anything they were saying and nearly became an enemy to his own family. Greyson was so broken and yet I was happy he accepted that Avery loves Jameson and wasn't going to try to fight or stand between them. Greyson has so much healing and so much of his past that he needs to face that I don't think Avery would have been able to save him. There was a moment where I was disappointed in Grey when he told Avery he was over Emily, when I don't truly believe he was. He was so infatuated with Eve moments before that it was bouncing from one girl to the next and luckily Avery saw that.
The clues that were left, the family history, the marks of the past, present and future were all tied up with a bow by the end of the story. We even got to play a quick game of chess along the way. Avery truly became the Queen Gambit and one that even Liam couldn't out match. Avery is cunning and solved the puzzles the world she was thrown in back at it. She knew the stakes and with family, friends and a few foes along the way she created her own game, a game Liam regardless of her status would not be able to win.
The end of book Avery has to set up her own game for her birthday every year. And I can't wait to see how that happens for them Hawthorn boys and see who breaks the riddle first. Now I know what you are thinking. Wait this is the last book of the series. Yes you are correct but recently on IG Jennifer announced that there is another book following out Hawthorn boys called "The Brothers Hawthorne" That will be released in 2023 and I can say I have already begun looking for preorders for this book.
I need a anagram for This will be good.
